Hesse's Economics Minister visits new JUMO plant

Economics Minister Mansoori: New SENSILO - building a clear commitment to the Fulda location

Construction work at the JUMO SENSILO plant in the Technology Park Fulda-West continues to progress rapidly. Following the planned relocation in the fourth quarter, production is to be gradually ramped up in spring 2025, as JUMO Managing Director Dr Steffen Hoßfeld has now explained to Hesse's Economics Minister Kaweh Mansoori. The Economics Minister visited the new JUMO plant in the Technology Park Fulda-West as part of his summer tour.

The Economics Minister was also welcomed by JUMO shareholder Bernhard Juchheim and JUMO Works Council Chairman Torsten Nebenführ. “We create the future here, we create growth,” emphasised Hoßfeld. “We have applied for funding from the state of Hesse for the energy management concept of our new building. We are confident that our innovative approach to sustainable energy efficiency will receive the necessary support,” continued Hoßfeld. JUMO made a conscious decision in favour of the Fulda region and therefore the state of Hesse, alternative locations were discussed by the decision-making committee.

According to Hoßfeld, the new building is primarily about digitalisation, material flow optimisation, reducing cost structures and thus ultimately about efficiency gains in order to be able to compete globally. At 50 million euros, the new building is the largest investment in JUMO's history. “JUMO is still on schedule and on budget,” emphasised shareholder Bernhard Juchheim proudly.

Commitment to the Fulda location

“With almost 49,000 employees, the electrical industry accounts for around 12.5 per cent of all employees in Hesse's industry and is therefore an important economic factor and employer,” said Hesse's Economics Minister Kaweh Mansoori. “The new JUMO SENSILO plant is a clear commitment to the Fulda location and strengthens the economic power of the entire region. That is a strong signal.”

Production area of around 13,000 square metres

JUMO is building a plant for the production of temperature and pressure sensors in the Technology Park with a production area of around 13,000 square metres. These product areas have recently experienced above-average growth. JUMO also sees great potential here in the coming years.

JUMO plans to double the production volume of temperature sensors by 2026 compared to 2022. The production of pressure sensors will also become significantly more efficient. “JUMO is the only Hessian company that produces platinum chips for temperature sensors. The expansion of pressure measurement technology is necessary because we want to supply sustainable markets, especially in hydrogen technology,” says Hoßfeld.

Sustainable production: Capping peak loads

According to current plans, JUMO will completely dispense with fossil fuels. With an innovative energy concept, JUMO is able to drastically reduce the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of the production property by systemically linking heat pumps, chillers and geothermal probes in combination with a sprinkler tank as medium-term storage.

By capping peak loads and shifting the timing of heating, cooling and environmental energy requirements, the sprinkler tank is intended to enable waste heat to be used in the company in a new and efficient way and to optimise the operation of the PV system.
